Swiss Pocket Watches, the Classique collection
Swiss Pocket Watches is the name we use for the Classique range, the dressier side of FOB & Co. Where most of the store runs on hand-wound mechanical movements, these pieces are built around Swiss quartz, so they keep time from a battery and need no daily winding. The cases are plainer and more formal than our decorative designs, which is why the Classique line tends to be chosen for weddings, graduations and retirement gifts rather than for costume or heritage-inspired styling.
What Swiss quartz means day to day
A quartz movement runs from a small battery and holds its time closely without any input from you. Nothing needs winding, and a watch left in a drawer for a fortnight still shows the right time when you pick it up. That makes this range a sensible first pocket watch, and a safe gift for someone who likes the look of a traditional timepiece but would not remember to wind one. Cases, sizes and finishes
Case sizes in this collection sit at 43mm, 48mm and 49mm, noticeably more substantial than a dress wristwatch and easy to read at arm's length. Finishes include rhodium plated, gold plated and pewter, all plated or tone finishes rather than solid metal. Most of the collection is full hunter, meaning a hinged lid covers the dial and springs open at the crown, and there are open-face designs with the dial always visible for anyone who wants to check the time one-handed. Ordering, delivery and after-sales
A large share of the Classique range is made to order rather than held on the shelf, so allow extra time for made-to-order pieces. Anything in stock is dispatched from Brisbane within 1 to 2 business days, with free Express Post on Australian orders over $60 and Parcel Post below that. Every watch has a matching chain available separately, and a free matching chain is added to orders over $100. The movement carries a 12-month warranty. Are these Swiss Pocket Watches Swiss made?
The movement is the Swiss part. The Classique range uses Swiss quartz movements, and that is what we describe rather than claiming the whole watch is Swiss made. If Swiss origin matters to you, buy on the movement rather than on the case.
Do Swiss Pocket Watches need winding?
No. The Classique range is Swiss quartz, so it runs from a battery and keeps time on its own. You only intervene when the battery eventually needs replacing, which any watchmaker or jeweller can do. If you want a watch you wind by hand, look at our hand-wound mechanical hunters and skeletons instead.
What sizes are the Classique pocket watches?
Case sizes in this collection run at 43mm, 48mm and 49mm across the open-face and full hunter designs. That is larger than a typical wristwatch, which is normal for a pocket watch and makes the dial easy to read. Thickness varies a little between the open-face and lidded cases.
Why do some Swiss Pocket Watches take longer to arrive?
Much of the Classique range is made to order rather than kept in stock, so those pieces are produced after you order and take longer than our normal turnaround. In-stock pieces leave Brisbane within 1 to 2 business days. If timing is tight for a gift, choose an in-stock design or allow extra time for made-to-order pieces.
Can a Classique pocket watch be engraved?
Not in this collection. Engraving is offered only on our Engravable Pocket Watches range, where the case back is prepared for it and you add your text on the product page before adding the watch to your cart. If personalising matters more to you than the Swiss quartz movement, start in that range instead.
