Engravable Pocket Watches is the one range at FOB & Co set up for personalising, and it exists because a name and a date turn a good gift into a specific one. Weddings, 21sts, retirements, graduations and memorial gifts are what these pieces are usually bought for. The designs are mostly full hunter, so the lid protects the dial and the flat outer case back is left clear for the engraving. Nothing outside this range can be engraved, so start here if the message matters more than the finish.

How the engraving works

Choose your watch, type your text into the engraving field on the product page, then add it to the cart. The engraving is done on the case back, costs a small fee added at the product page, and adds 2 to 4 business days before the order is dispatched from Brisbane. Check your spelling carefully, because we engrave exactly what you type, including capitals and punctuation. Engraved watches are excluded from our 60-day change-of-mind returns for obvious reasons, though the 12-month warranty on the movement still applies.

What fits in 30 characters

Thirty characters is roughly a short line of text, and spaces and punctuation each count as one character. Examples that fit comfortably are "Love always, Mum" at 16 characters, "James, 21st June 2027" at 21, "To Dad, from Ella and Tom" at 25 and "In memory of Jack 1950-2026" at 27. What will not fit is a full sentence, two names plus a long date, or a line of verse. If you are close to the limit, initials, a short date format and dropping the year's first two digits all buy you room.

Choosing a watch to engrave

Silver-tone and rhodium plated cases give the cleanest contrast for engraved lettering, while gold-tone cases read warmer and slightly softer. Some pieces here are made to order, so allow extra time for made-to-order pieces on top of the engraving turnaround when you are buying for a fixed date.
